The snowballing troubles of Jesse Jackson Jr. took a new turn Friday with the revelation that federal investigators have launched a probe into “suspicious activity” in the South Shore congressman finances.

Focusing on a completely new area of scrutiny for the son of the famed civil rights leader, the investigation is not related to former Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s attempted sale of a U.S. Senate seat, a scandal that has ensnared Jackson in the past, sources told the Chicago Sun-Times.

A teacher was fired for being inside a classroom where two third grade students were allegedly having oral sex under a table.

The dismissal came after officials at the Tallulah Elementary School in Louisiana investigated last week's incident.

It's a first for Wegmans in this area. They've put up a sign asking customers buying pork or alcohol not to use a particular checkout line when a Muslim teenager is on duty as the cashier.

The sign went up a week ago at their Lyell Avenue store.

Wegmans says they haven't gotten any in store complaints and Wegmans was very upfront about the cashier. They just wouldn't allow us in the store to talk with her or customers.

Spokeswoman Jo Natale says the cashier is a teenaged girl who wears a head covering. She told her supervisor she was uncomfortable handling those items because of religious reasons. So the store manager who had experience with this type of situation outside of Rochester decided to put up a small sign whenever the girl was at the checkout counter.

In the last year, the civilian population rose by 3,584,000. Yet the labor force only rose by 1,569,000. Those not in the labor force rose by 2,014,000. In February, the Civilian Labor Force rose by 476,000. In February, those "Not in Labor Force" decreased by 310,000. If you are not in the labor force, you are not counted as unemployed. Participation Rate rose .2 to 63.9% Were it not for people dropping out of the labor force, the unemployment rate would be well over 11%. Over the past several years people have dropped out of the labor force at an astounding, almost unbelievable rate, holding the unemployment rate artificially low. Some of this was due to major revisions last month on account of the 2010 census finally factored in. However, most of it is simply economic weakness.

Power Plants Shutting Down to Comply With EPA Demands » Not Good News

GLEN LYN, Va. — The reality of snuffing out several antiquated coal-fired power plants moved a step closer to reality on Thursday with American Electric Power issuing formal notification of the plan to retire 4,600 megawatts of power to comply with Environmental Protection Agency regulations.

"We continue to have serious concerns about the potential impact these plant retirements — and retirements of generation announced by other utilities — will have on the reliability of the electricity grid," Nicholas K. Akins, AEP president and chief executive officer was quoted in an AEP press release as stating. "Our retiring units were required to run to meet peak demand last summer and little new generation is scheduled to come on line prior to the retirement dates to replace the lost generating capacity."

AEP needed to retire more than 4,600 megawatts of coal-fired power to comply with EPA regulations. In addition, AEP was required to announce the plant retirements before PJM Interconnection's auction in May that will set electric generation capacity prices from June 2015 through May 2016.

AEP's Glen Lyn plant is among a group of several power plants scheduled to be retired on June 1, 2015, but AEP will start retiring coal-fired plants as early as Dec. 31, when it retires the Conesville 3, plant in Conesville, Ohio. AEP has already retired the 450-megawatt Sporn Plant in February.

President Obama has said he would prefer to rule without interference from the elected representatives of the American people. His record shows a disturbing willingness to do just that.

The president’s arrogant approach to governing disregards important constitutional structures -- such as the Appointments Clause of the Constitution -- and displaces Congress in favor of unelected bureaucrats and czars.

Bipartisan legislating has been replaced by unilateral executive rule-making. Oversight has given way to unaccountability.

Unfortunately for the American people, President Obama’s regulatory over-reach ignores their views and circumvents their elected representatives.

In just one hour, The Post was able to buy a phony green card, Social Security card and New York state driver’s license from a stranger on a corner — all of which could serve as a gateway to obtain legitimate IDs.

The cards are frighteningly real — convincing enough to fool creditors, potential employers and security at buildings and even the airport.

Experts said the biggest fear is that these IDs are being bought by people who slipped past border crossings.

“You get that legitimate ID, and this one goes away,” said John Cutter, retired NYPD deputy chief of the Intelligence Division, as he tossed the fake Social Security card in the air.

Thus did Mitt Romney supposedly commit the gaffe of the month -- for we are not to speak of the poor without unctuous empathy.

Yet, as Robert Rector of the Heritage Foundation reports in "Understanding Poverty in the United States: Surprising Facts About America's Poor," Mitt was more right about America's magnanimity than those who bewail her alleged indifference.

First, who are the poor?

To qualify, a family of four in 2010 needed to earn less than $22,314. Some 46 million Americans, 15 percent of the population, qualified.

And in what squalor were America's poor forced to live?

Well, 99 percent had a refrigerator and stove, two-thirds had a plasma TV, a DVD player and access to cable or satellite, 43 percent were on the Internet, half had a video game system like PlayStation or Xbox.

Three-fourths of the poor had a car or truck, nine in 10 a microwave, 80 percent had air conditioning. In 1970, only 36 percent of the U.S. population enjoyed air conditioning.

The $4 Billion Obamacare Slush Fund for Progressives

If you like how the Obama administration's multibillion-dollar "investments" in bankrupt solar companies have turned out, you'll love the latest federal loan program to nowhere. It's the Obamacare loyalty rewards program for progressives.

To appease liberal Democrats pushing for the so-called "public option" (the full frontal government takeover of our health care system), the White House settled for the creation of a $6 billion network of nonprofit "CO-OPs" that will "compete" with private insurers. It's socialized medicine through the side door. House Republicans sliced about $2 billion from the slush fund in last spring's budget deal and proclaimed the program dead. Hardly.

On Wednesday, the White House trumpeted the release of nearly $700 million in taxpayer-funded low-interest loans for seven CO-OPs in eight states. Administered by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the fund will pour more money into CO-OP plans nationwide throughout the next year. In 2014, according to Washington bureaucrats, the plans will be offered on the federally approved and federally monitored state health exchange "marketplace."  read more

The Left's War on Legal Immigration and Voter Integrity
On Oct. 14, a federal judge blocked key portions of Alabama's new immigration law after several groups, including the Obama Justice Department and the ACLU, asked for an injunction.

The Justice Department claims that states that assist in enforcing federal immigration laws are violating the Constitutional separation of powers.

Really? If that's so, I wonder if state police in Alabama are barred from arresting someone trying to pass counterfeit $100 bills, since it's federal currency. Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution gives Congress the power "to provide for the Punishment of counterfeiting the Securities and current Coin of the United States." It doesn't say anything about state troopers.

Likewise, Article I, Sec. 8 of the Constitution authorizes Congress "to establish an uniform Rule of Naturalization." State police arresting illegal aliens has nothing to do with deciding who can be naturalized.

"Does it really cause harm to the United States when a state informs the federal government of persons who are in violation of federal law, and then leaves it to the federal government to decide whether to initiate deportation proceedings?" Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange wrote in the state's response.
